Testimonials

“An indispensable tool to provide both industry and government with practical information and to answer their queries. I use FIVS-Abridge at least once a week and it is often my only realistic option to find the information I really need."

André Matthee, Director of Regulatory Services, South African Wine and Spirit Board

“Being relatively new to the USA, I missed a reference work allowing me to rapidly check applicable wine regulations and laws when faced with industry requests and questions, e.g. about compound limits or permitted practices. FIVS-Abridge allows me to consult federal regulations and find the original references more rapidly compared with having to search the code of federal regulations. Through Abridge, I have become more acquainted with the CFR, but I still prefer Abridge as an access point, simply because of its search functions.

More importantly, I learnt to appreciate the performance of FIVS Abridge when editing a comparison of international regulations with regards to enzyme additions in winemaking. Without FIVS Abridge, I would have had to limit myself to the regulations of the USA and, possibly, the EU, simply because of the large number of enzymes and regulations in winemaking countries. FIVS Abridge has allowed me to compile this information authoritatively (as confirmed by the underlying regulations cited in the database) and in a timely fashion. As opposed to days of searching, I would estimate the time needed to ~30 minutes to take the basic tutorial to learn how to use FIVS Abridge, 20 minutes to search the regulations across all major wine producing countries, and two hours to analyze the data and underlying regulations.

I don't think there is an alternative to such a database if international regulations are to be searched or compared rapidly. I consider FIVS Abridge essential for my activity as researcher and educator in enology.”

“I am writing to thank you for getting Cornell access to FIVS-Abridge, the wine regulations database. It has been a nightmare to this point to track down specific wine regulations for different countries (e.g. allowable sulfite levels in Australia vs. the US) . . . but last night I got on to the program for the first time, and I was able to find specific information I needed for a new lecture within 15 minutes. This was after wasting 1.5 hours on Google trying to track down the same information, unsuccessfully!

Again, thanks, and I'll be sure to let my colleagues and students know about this database.”
